STATEMENT

The diversity and vibrancy of the urban landscape is a constant source of inspiration allowing me to capture and interrogate the essence of the cityscape, interpreting, combining and constructing daily experiences into layered abstract paintings of imagined landscapes fused with colour, movement, rhythm and energy of the city.

When walking or moving through the cityscape I retrace the journey several times reflecting on the known, merging new observations and findings to my recollections, resetting and repositioning my personal visual maps.

Photography is key for gathering source information, digital for its immediacy but much preferring analogue, its limited shots inspiring me to see and experience the space with fresh eyes. The unpredictability and imperfections of the developed print adds a tangible quality of time and nostalgia to my remembrances.

Painting and walking are interwoven, experimenting and discovering new routes or materials, being lost, discovering unseen and hidden connections, reflecting to understand and learn, evolving finally into the abstracted imaginings of a painting which are as meaningful as the journeys that inspired them.
